CHARACTER INFO
NAME: Rose Lalonde
CANON: Homestuck
REFERENCE LINKS: The Wiki for Rose.
CHARACTER INFO:
Rose crash-landed via meteor in northern New York, and was raised by a single mother in quite an...unusual nature. Their entire relationship (according to Rose) was based upon mutual passive-aggressive maneuvers designed to challenge Rose’s intellect, as well as get on her nerves. This has led to a sort of separation between Rose and her mother, one that continues to grow as they exchange displays of "parental and childhood affection" for each other, which Rose has grown to detest. Because of these confrontations, Rose learned to be a very secretive person -- any interest she may have in a subject could be used against her in retaliation. So she hid her love of wizardry lore, as well as her book of genetic code. She even hides things from her friends -- three people who she met via pesterchum, an online chat client. While the other kids are content to tell most of their ideas straight out, Rose prefers to hide her master plan until it benefits her to reveal all the steps. This not only keeps her ideas from being used against her, but also safeguards her friends from danger. This becomes extremely important later in the series, when Rose conducts a suicide mission to break their session and save her friends.
At the age of thirteen, Rose began playing a game that would change the world: SBURB, an interactive world-building game with dire consequences. As the first server player (or the first player to guide the interaction of a client, another player who is poking and prodding around the interface) she quickly sets a precedent for her intelligence within the game. She conducts John’s movements and helps him to set up the materials needed for him to play the game -- unfortunately for them, SBURB was not kind enough to let them dillydally. Meteors rained down on the kids (all four of them, including Jade and Dave, the other friends) and forced them to vacate the earth. Rose chronicles their journey in her walkthrough, which also displays her intelligence. The entire walkthrough is prosaic and elegantly written, which eventually gains the affection of Kanaya, one of twelve trolls who previously played SBURB. Intelligence is something that Rose Lalonde has in spades, and she's not afraid to admit it: she reads Lovecraftian horror stories at the age of thirteen, and has a deep interest in writing. She dabbles in psychoanalysis, often joking with her friends that she's writing all their interesting quirks and habits down in a notebook to keep for future publication (no one actually knows if this is true or not). Certainly, she seems to have insight into her friends' behavior more than any other person in the game. This fits the title which SBURB gave her when she entered the game -- Seer of Light, or a person who looks at all possibilities to provide the more fortuitous course of action.
As the game progresses, Rose goes on a quest for knowledge, not only for her own benefit but also for the benefit of her friends. She learns from Kanaya that the kids’ session is doomed to fail, evoking a dramatic response. There is one thing that Rose hates: being told she cannot find a way to succeed. She takes steps to remedy the situation; taking risks is simply part of the game, and she will play the game to its fullest -- death is not a deterrent to her. She purposefully listens to the gods and creates her Thorns (dark magic-fueled knitting needles) with the intent of following their orders on the promise of knowledge and a successful game session. Rose begins her suicide mission to destroy the Green Sun based on their knowledge. She tears apart her land (the Land of Light and Rain) and eventually seeks the help of an omniscient being named Doc Scratch. He guides her into seeking the ultimate power, rendering her grimdark -- which she uses to seek revenge for her Mom, who was killed by the Big Bad Jack Noir. While she may seem primarily concerned with knowledge and power, Rose actually cares deeply for her friends and her Mom. Most of the things she’s done -- tearing planets apart, alienating and ignoring her friends -- has been done out of a need to keep them safe. By sacrificing herself, Rose thought to save her friends and mother. But she realizes that all she had done was ignore them, trusting that they would be safe in their ignorance. Rose would never purposefully hurt any of her friends, and despite being a little chilly, she does admit that they are her best friends, and she loves their company. Sometimes, however, her feelings get the better of her, and she will tear apart the game to get revenge for the people she loves. She goes grimdark and sets out to kill Jack Noir in revenge for Mom and John’s deaths, but eventually ends up dying herself. John revives her using the power of a kiss (he wasn’t actually dead) and she wakes up on Derse, the dream moon that she and Dave’s dreamselves live on. By now, her situation has changed: she no longer feels the need to alienate her friends for their safety. She’s realized that they were always perfectly competent, and has started to calculate a plan based on the evidence she’s collected that’s not based on outside sources. Rose just doesn't want people to think less of her -- power lies in the exterior presented as well as the interior knowledge behind the words, and Rose leaves nothing to chance. She and Dave pilot the moon of Derse with a bomb inside to the furthest ring (which sits outside of space and time) and detonate it, creating the Green Sun which they set out to destroy. They kill themselves on their quest beds (a magical device created to render the user immortal if they die on it) using the explosion, and emerge as god tier.
CONSIDERATIONS:
A large part of who Rose is revolves around her Mom, and the interactions she's had over the course of thirteen years. She's become a secretive, passive aggressive person with a penchant for sarcasm -- all part of attempting to get around her Mom's schemes to kill her with PA kindness. Without all of that, you have a Rose who believes herself to be a bit more trusting. Not every person has a hidden agenda behind their words. In fact, no one does (until she learns otherwise). She doesn't feel the need to hold her interests as a secret or to constantly challenge the system in unique and pressing ways. That doesn't mean that she won't be competitive; that streak would still run strong in her, but it wouldn't be pushed to secretive measures as it has been in canon. She'd be much more forthright about her competition.
Without reason to hide her sincerity, Rose will also be a bit more forthcoming about what she likes. Underneath her secret and intelligent wall lies a girl who cares deeply for her friends and mentors -- that will shine through more than in canon, where she keeps it hidden in case it comes back to haunt her. Rose will still be quite intelligent, but will lose her unique knowledge of SBURB and the ability to read into her friend's personalities, a skill that was gained from years of studying psychology. She'll still have her ability to pick out people's weaknesses, but will have less of a desire to note and potentially flaunt them, like she does with Dave.
Also without her memories, Rose loses her most important support system, as well: her three best friends. She doesn't have the easiest time making friends, but since she'll be a little more trusting than her canon self, she'll have to make new ones to replace the friends that she doesn't remember. Because a Seer is no good without friends to support her and help her achieve her goals.
SKILLS:
+ Rose is exceptionally intelligent for a thirteen year old, possessing an advanced command of the English language and knowledge of many different genres of literature (though her favorite books are works in the style of Lovecraft).
+ Able to take command of situations in a rational manner.
+ Skilled in the art of knitting and playing the violin.
+ Rose is needlekind, and as such can down an opponent three times her size using only knitting needles.
+ Creative in unusual circumstances, such as the confines of SBURB and when attempting to find the origins of the Green Sun.
+ Able to work under pressure, and also calm other people down with logical thinking.
+ God Tier Powers
• Immortality: All people who reach the god tier are granted immortality -- they cannot die by normal means, such as sickness or being stabbed in the back. However, if a person does something heroic and dies, or if a person goes off the deep end and gets brought to justice, they will die and will not automatically spring back to life. But aside from JUST and HEROIC endings, they cannot be killed.
• Seer Powers: as a Seer of Light, Rose is privy to the entirety of fortune. She can see every possible route that she and her friends could take, and choose the one that will be more advantageous to them. A Seer is a class that is for tacticians, and Rose is now a master of her craft. She is the master logician, able to choose the path to keep her friends alive.
• She can also fly.

OPTION 3:
Introduce yourself in a few sentences
My name is Rose Lalonde, formerly of upstate New York, on the earth. However, after an unfortunate accident involving several large meteors and a good deal of fire, I now reside in the Land of Light and Rain.
My friends and I killed the human race to play a video game that we might not win. I'm hardly to blame for the efforts of one machine, however faulty it may be.
"The suffering of a few is okay if it benefits a great many" -- do you agree with this sentiment? Why or why not?
Either you're trying to trick me into considering myself a leader for the sake of justice, or you're assuming that I have enough faith in humanity to constantly assume the best of all situations.
Very clever. I pass.
What event from your past has impacted you the most? Please describe.
If you're referring to the death of my cat, Jaspers, I would say that to a young child the sudden death of a pet was extremely traumatic. However, my mother's saccharine treatment of a somber occasion was a little off-putting for a young soul. Thankfully that experience won't be repeated again.
At least Jaspers came back to life, in a way. Even if he's now a talking cat.
If you were a kind of food item, what item would you be and why?
What a ridiculous question.
...I guess I'd be an orange, with the nigh impenetrable glare of my god tier sari.
Three things you're good at?
I don't need to quantify my achievements for your personal amusement.
Three things you're not so good at?
...I need to learn when to forgive. And possibly when to allow my friends a modicum of trust.
Do you believe in soulmates or love at first sight?
Is Karkat the one making up the questions for this questionnaire? John's silly foray into the world of romance got him killed, so no. Not that I know of.
"Killing criminals is okay if they've committed a grave crime" -- do you agree with this? Why or why not?
Yes. There's always room for justice, and crimes should be punished. Some things are unforgivable.
Do you consider yourself a strong person? Why or not why?
I do, but I don't think I need to elaborate. Strength isn't something you can put any words to, it's something that has to be believed through mutual trust. If you don't think I'm as strong as I personally believe, then it's your loss.
